HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

In the beginning of creation in the Traditional Yoruba Land, there was nothing like Commerce or Trade of any kind. It was a terrible and chaotic situation. There were frequent wars and too much killings on the Land and this brought great discomforts among the People.

Due to this great Calamity, Orunmila was invited and asked to consult Ifa (the Oracle) to find a lasting solution to this menace happening in the Land.

After consulting Ifa Olokun, As'orodayo, it was revealed that Orunmila would have to visit Olodumare (the Creator) in Heaven where Ajé was staying and bring her to Earth. Orunmila was told to get a very big sack that can contain human, White Dove, Banana and Boiled egg. All these were provided for Orunmila and he proceeded to Àjùlé Òrun (Heaven) in search of Ajé.

Ajé at this period was the favorite of Olodumare and she was always beside Olodumare in Heaven. Whatever food or water consumed and left over by Oludumare, Ajé was the one who consumed the remnants. She was very close to Olodumare to the point that she was always with Him anytime deities, gods and goddesses come to pay homage and worshipped Olodumare.

After paying homage to Olodumare and explaining his mission in Heaven and seek for His permission to fulfill the mission which will bring everlasting Joy to the world, Orunmila gave the items he brought to Aje as gifts.

Aje was very delighted seeing the favorite meals brought by Orunmila and she quickly jumped into the sack which was later known as ÀPÒ AJÉ and started eating from the sack.

Orunmila wasted no time as he tied the mouth of the sack and proceeded on the journey to mother earth. Within a blink of the eyes, through the help of the Atmosphric/ Terrestrial power called KÁNÀKÒ, Orunmila found himself on Earth with Ajé.

Ajé was very sad when she discovered that she had been tricked by Orunmila from Heaven. She told Orunmila to take her back with the food items to Olodumare. Orunmila and other deities appealed to Ajé to stay with them, telling her they were ready to provide whatever that would give her comfort to stay on Earth.

After a very long appeal and deliberations, Ajé agreed to stay on Earth and the following conditions were given by her;

1. She would stay inside the Ocean with her mother and come out regularly to teach everyone how to trade on Earth,

2. Her stall must be well shaded where heat from the sun must not Penetrate her,

3. She must have regular supplies of Banana, White Dove, Boiled egg and other assorted fruits.

4. Failure to provide all these sacrificial food items for her, she would make herself scarce from the Land and this will lead to worse Calamities.

5. She must be worshipped the way humanity and other deities worshipped Olodumare because she always felt happy anytime she saw deities paying homage to Olodumare.

6. A DAY OUT OF THE SEVEN DAYS MUST BE NAMED AFTER HER AND IT MUST BE CALLED OJÓ AJÉ (MONDAY).

Though Orunmila was not happy with these conditions but he had no choice than to obliged since everyone agreed to everything Ajé had laid down. Ever since, the Earth flourished with Prosperity, Money, Happiness, Peace, Development and Commerce.
